Meet Susan

Hello! I’m Susan Conyac of Growing Hope Therapy. I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida and my background in psychology and counseling helps me bring a practical down-to-earth approach to therapy. I help you to explore the thought and behavior patterns that are negatively impacting your life. I also help you to implement some strategies and solutions that will assist you in moving forward.

We can talk about whatever is causing you stress. Seriously! Nothing is off-limits and there’s no judgement here. Instead, we explore the issues that impact your relationships and your life.

If you are experiencing challenges or struggles, I would love to work with you and create some clear and concise goals as well as strategies to attain your objectives. I incorporate an integrative approach to therapy, using evidence-based cognitive behavioral and solution-focused techniques into my practice, primarily. In addition, I have completed basic training of EMDR therapy through the Personal Transformation Institute (EMDRIA-certified). I tailor your therapy to you and meet you right where you are now. Together, we will work to understand the origins of your overwhelming emotions, create some self-care practices for you, develop coping skills to help you feel better, and set forth an action plan to help you move forward. We will work towards your vision of happiness and contentment so that you can live the life that you deserve!

What Makes Me Different?

Every therapist is unique, and it’s important for you to feel confident in your decision when choosing the right fit for you. Have you ever felt as though someone didn’t really understand you and seemed impatient or annoyed by your concerns? I have, and it was a horrible feeling!

I try to be the type of therapist that I would want to meet. How you experience your therapist interpersonally really matters. You need to feel comfortable in the therapeutic relationship so that you can share, advocate for yourself, and learn and take away some productive coping strategies. One thing I pride myself on is that my clients often tell me that I make them feel seen, heard, and understood. I have no trouble doing deep work with my clients and I would love getting to see you experience the kind of growth and transformation that you are searching for in therapy!

I listen to you. REALLY listen to you. I offer you profound accurately-aimed attention. I want you to know that you are valued, revered, incredibly interesting, and truly worthy of the attention and care that you deserve. I take the time to get to know you for who you are and YOU are the focus of each session. Your concerns, frustrations, insights, and growth are the topics of our discussions.

I know pain. I experienced health struggles, intense grief, and other tough times early in life and have a great sense of empathy toward others who are facing their own unique challenges. Have you experienced loss? Are you dealing with some setbacks? Feeling like you’re stuck on a side road changing a flat tire while everyone else is passing you by on the freeway of life? I get you! I’ve been there, so when I say I get it, I do. My personal attributes, experience, education, and training have led to many successes in helping clients transform their thinking, behavior, and lives.

I will require you to do some work, and I am an active participant in your treatment as well. I attend to your concerns and needs and provide extraordinary quality of care. I really want to get to know you and I often think about you between our sessions. I will send you supplemental resources from time to time, including worksheets, articles, and videos that may be of interest and benefit to you, via secure messaging in your client portal. Yes, your emotional growth and well-being is important to me

A Little About Me In Every Day Life

I’m a native Floridian and am a proud mom of three grown kids. I have a beautiful granddaughter, now, too. I love animals and have two cats, two large dogs (my security team!), and an entire room full of reptiles in my home. I love the beach, Florida springs, Mexican cenotes, and hiking and kayaking. I enjoy cooking, reading, taking road trips and exploring other cities and cultural events, too. Most importantly, my favorite thing to do is connect with people and I would love to help you create a more peaceful and happier life for yourself. I keep it real in therapy sessions, and I’m the same person in the therapy room that I am in my family room. I’m practical and down-to-earth in my approach, and I sprinkle in a little humor occasionally. Nothing is off limits in our sessions. Nothing.
